How to Make Matcha Tea
Welcome to our guide on how to make the perfect matcha tea. Following these simple steps will allow you to enjoy a delicious drink full of health benefits.
Necessary Tools
Before you begin, make sure you have the right tools:
- Tea bowl
- Chasen (bamboo whisk) or fork
- Chashaku (bamboo spoon) or teaspoon
- Fine sieve
Ingredients
- 1-2 grams of matcha tea powder (about 1-2 chashaku teaspoons)
- 60-70 ml of hot water (about 80°C)
Procedure
- Sift the Matcha
Use a fine sieve to strain the matcha into the tea bowl (chawan). This step helps prevent lumps and ensures a smooth consistency.
- Heat the water
Bring the water to a temperature of about 80°C. Avoid using boiling water, as it can burn the matcha and alter its flavor.
- Add Water
Pour the hot water into the bowl over the sifted matcha.
- Mix
Use the bamboo whisk (chasen) to stir the matcha and water. Move the chasen quickly in an "M" or "W" shape until you get a light, even foam on the surface of the tea. This should take about 15-20 seconds.
- Serve and Enjoy
Your matcha tea is ready! You can enjoy it as is or accompany it with traditional Japanese sweets.
Matcha Tea Variations
- Matcha Latte : Add hot milk (or plant-based drink) to prepared matcha for a creamy, delicious matcha latte.
- Cold Matcha : Prepare the matcha as described above, then add ice and cold water for a refreshing drink.
